BEWARE: U.S. MARSHALS WARN PUBLIC OF PHONE SCAM

Imposter Deputy U.S. Marshal targeting Collin County residents

PLANO, Texas – The U.S. Marshals Service is warning the public about a telephone scam targeting residents in Collin County. In the recent events, the caller has identified himself as a Deputy U.S. Marshal and advised the victim that he or she has missed federal grand jury duty and must immediately pay a fine in order to avoid being arrested.

There have been several reported incidents of this scam in Collin County. The U.S. Marshals Service became aware of the scam after receiving multiple reports from concerned citizens. The U.S. Marshals Service does not seek payments for fines or personal financial information by telephone.

The U.S. Marshals Service urges the public not to divulge personal or financial information to unknown individuals. If anyone has been victimized by fraud, they are urged to report the incident to the appropriate local police department, sheriff’s office or to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
